He adds: “Companies that bring about meaningful change tend to achieve this over a long timescale. Just look back to the early days of Facebook.
"I doubt many, even its founder, fully imagined the impact it would have on society – for good or bad. When people talk about long-term investing, this generally means at least five or more years.
“However, few people are willing to wait that long for their investments to achieve a return in-line with their expectations. That’s a difficult conflict to manage, as we are seeing this year.”
