Stephen Scholefield, partner at law firm Pinsent Masons, stressed that it was “a huge challenge" to explain how changes to the state pension arrangements affect individuals in a meaningful way, especially where it involves the relationship between state and private pensions.
He added: “But it is clear from this case, and from the complaints made by some Women Against State Pension Inequality supporters, that the failing to get the message across risks future claims and storing up problems for the future.
“Perhaps policymakers should be required to address how the impact of changes will be communicated to individuals when consulting on further changes.”
